The Student Design 2025 competition, held at the Mobitex fair at the Brno Exhibition Centre, awarded the works of students from secondary schools and universities from the Czech and Slovak Republics. The Upholstery Craftsmanship Award went to Gabriela Sázavská, a student of Furniture Design, for the Speaker’s Chair – Arctri. The expert jury appreciated not only the exceptional level of upholstery work, but also the design combined with aesthetics, functionality and durability.
“The design of the chair combines an original minimalist structure made of bent balotinated stainless steel and ergonomic seating surfaces. The geometric lines of the triangular elements in combination with the curves ensure stability, comfort and timeless elegance designed for the interior. The design is exceptional thanks to the perfect balance between aesthetics, functionality and durability. It is characterised by simple clean geometric shapes, spatial lightness, functionality and quality materials,” commented Jaroslav Svoboda, the project manager, on the winning chair.
Each of the participating schools had the opportunity to display three selected exhibits. Mendel University also took advantage of this opportunity.
Vilém Zuzaník / Benches – L24
Thanks to the central bar and the legs recessed into the seat top, the bench stands out for its stability and at the same time forms an aesthetically interesting element. This seemingly simple oak bench is thus transformed into a harmonious whole that, thanks to its minimalist lines, can easily fit into a variety of interiors.

“Presenting student work at exhibitions and competitions provides a valuable opportunity for young people to compare themselves with other students from other schools. This gives them an insight into different teaching approaches and provides important feedback towards their own work. The expert jury judges the quality of the work on display from various aspects, including innovation, ergonomics, application of new materials and technologies, and of course aesthetic appeal. Indeed, the appearance of a product is often the first factor that influences a purchasing decision. At the same time, this event allows students to present their products to the general public. Positive reactions from the public are the main and best reward for the students. The prizes won are a nice extra bonus,” said Svoboda, evaluating the importance of student competitions.
