The Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology of Mendel University (FFWT MENDELU) is participating in Diplomacy Week, which takes place from 24 to 28 March 2025 in the Czech Republic. On this occasion, the Deputy Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Czech Republic, Ms Adisa Mujkić, will visit the Faculty and University Forests of MENDELU on 25 March. The event is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic. It aims to bring the work of diplomats to the wider public through discussions, media appearances, social media posts and cooperation with foreign embassies.
Ms. Adisa Mujkić, Deputy Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the Czech Republic, will visit FFWT MENDELU as a part of Diplomacy Week. “There is a long-term cooperation with the University of Banja Luka, which includes the exchange of students and academic staff. We have a recent project with the University of Sarajevo focusing on Sustainable water management and urban blue-green infrastructure. On 1 April 2025, the project “Strategy for the conservation of ash (Fraxinus angustifolia) populations in the Danube basin – SCAN DANUBE” will be launched, which also includes partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Alena Šamonilová from the Department of Forest Protection and Wildlife Management, who is in charge of cooperation with the Western Balkan countries within the FFWT MENDELU.
Adisa Mujkić will start the half-day-long programme in the university forests: “We will introduce Ms Mujkić to management in the university forests around Ressl’s forest house, where we will show her practical aspects of forest management, the approach to sustainable management and specific measures for the restoration and protection of forest ecosystems. The visit will also include a tour of the Leoš Janáček well,” said Pavlína Pancová Šimková, Vice-Dean for Integration into the European Research Area.
On the occasion of Diplomacy Week, the Deputy Ambassador will be welcomed at the Faculty by the Dean of FFWT MENDELU Libor Jankovský. The afternoon programme will culminate at 16:00 with a lecture and discussion on the functioning of diplomacy, relations between the Czech Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and personal experience from diplomatic practice.
“By participating in Diplomacy Week, we want to highlight the importance of international cooperation in forestry and sustainable development. As a faculty, we emphasise science diplomacy. Through this, we can share know-how, support joint projects, and contribute to sustainable development in the Czech Republic, Bosnia, and Herzegovina, as well as the wider regional and European context. The presence of the Deputy Ambassador will provide students and academics with a unique opportunity to gain insight into the functioning of diplomacy, bilateral relations between the Czech Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina and to discuss possibilities for further cooperation,” summarised the Vice – Dean Pavlína Pancová Šimková.
The main aim of the first Diplomacy Week is to introduce the public to what it means to work in diplomacy, share diplomats’ experience and those of diplomats working abroad, and present the functioning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a broader context, including priority foreign policy topics. The event is also intended to promote awareness of diplomatic career opportunities and increase public participation in international and foreign policy discussion.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ website and social networks provide a list of events organised as part of Diplomacy Week.
