The Department provides teaching of subjects across the following study programmes of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology:

Bachelor’s programmes

  • Biomaterial (in Czech)
  • Furniture Design (in Czech)
  • Furniture Design nad Manufacture (in Czech)
  • Technology and Management of Wood Processing (in Czech)

Master’s programmes

  • Furniture Engineering (in Czech)
  • Technology and Management of Wood Proce (in Czech)
  • Furniture Design (Re-accreditation of the study, in Czech) programme is currently underway) – in Czech

Doctoral programmes

  • Processes Furniture Manufacture (in Czech)

Programmes and applications used in teaching

  • AutoCAD Design work: production documentation and 3D modelling
  • SolidWorks CAD software for 3D modelling: used mainly in industrial design, allows for the creation of simulations
  • Rhinoceros 3D 3D modelling, known for its ability to work with NURBS curves
  • Ansys / COMSOL modelling and simulation of physical processes
  • 3Ds Max 3D modelling, design visualisation, animation and rendering
  • Lumion 3D computer graphics and animation rendering
  • Afinity editing, graphic design
  • Statistica data analysis, statistical calculations and data visualisation

Teaching is modern and underpinned by science, practice and current technology:

  • In the studio, students design furniture and interiors for both public and residential spaces. They gain valuable experience in design and functionality, experiment with different materials and styles and learn to adapt designs to the specific requirements of clients and users.
  • The Showroom presents a selection of final thesis work by students of the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Furniture Creation and Design
  • Mendel’s DesignLab is a new state-of-the-art space designed for student lectures and exhibitions, offering an inspiring environment for creative making, meeting and discussion.
  • Dedicated laboratories for furniture testing, surface finish evaluation, materials evaluation and development and indoor environmental quality assessment (e.g. volatile organic compounds (VOC)).
  • The Furniture Testing Room is fitted with specialised equipment designed to test and evaluate the quality and durability of furniture products, as well as all technologies and instruments required for performing tests in accordance with international standards.
  • The Creative Studio is equipped with everything the student needs to create furniture or interior design models, including a range of wood modelling machines and a large industrial CNC laser fitted with three modules, i.e. laser, milling machine and cutting knives.
  • The 3D Printing Centre is used by students to prepare models for term-time projects and final theses. Here, students can experiment with different materials and printing techniques, thereby expanding their practical skills and knowledge.
  • The Computer Laboratory allows ideas and designs for products and interiors to be transformed into real life. Students and designers can develop complex projects, create realistic visualisations and prepare professional presentations of their designs.
  • Partner companies and institutions not only cooperate in preparing lessons, enabling excursions, providing work experience and helping with final theses, their representatives also share their experience through teaching.
