Today, a new MENDELU SHOP is opening on the ground floor of Building X, where you can buy university merchandise such as sweatshirts and T-shirts. A new category of promotional items is the Green Choice collection, where visitors to the shop will find items such as bags and backpacks made from old advertising banners, or scrunchies made from an outdated collection of university shirts.
“Opening this store is not just about selling items with the logo. It’s about strengthening our shared identity. We want every student, graduate, and employee to be able to proudly represent their alma mater outside the lecture halls. I see this space as another meeting point that strengthens our community spirit and shows the world that we are a united and confident university,” said MENDELU Rector Jan Mareš.
After several years, the sale of university promotional items is now moving from a small shop in the basement of building Q to a fully-fledged space on the ground floor of building X. “We are delighted to be able to start selling university items in a representative and pleasant space. Shoppers will have the opportunity to view and comfortably try out individual items, which until recently was difficult in the temporary premises,” said Jiřina Studenková, head of the MENDELU Communication and Marketing Department. The sale of MENDELU promotional items is finally moving to a space that suits it.
In addition to the classic collection of university T-shirts and sweatshirts in university and faculty colors, visitors can also look forward to upcycled novelties. “We are very proud of the Green Choice collection, which was created as an effort to utilize seemingly waste material and give it a second life. We used banners from the exhibition celebrating 200 years of G. J. Mendel to make bags, and outdated roll-ups and banners from various events were turned into backpacks. Thanks to a little color and creativity, shirts with outdated logos were turned into popular fabric hair ties,” Studenková outlined.
The MENDELU SHOP, which shares the ground floor of Building X with the study room and is located directly below the student cafeteria, will be open every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning, and on Friday afternoons. “We chose the store’s opening hours with regard to the class times of full-time and part-time students, because they are our main customers,” explained sales assistant Andrea Zimolová.
